Are you a Christchurch dancer who needs help with foot injuries? Georgina Barr is a podiatrist with a history in dance. Georgina engaged in many dance styles when younger and she is keen to share her experiences of injury management and prevention.
She works with dancers and teachers from all major Christchurch dance schools and is an affiliated member of the Christchurch Ballet Society and a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science.
As well as seeing dancers at the Bealey Avenue SportsMed clinic, Georgina regularly gives one hour seminars to Christchurch dancers (contact for cost). These talks include information on common skin and nail conditions and injury management and rehabilitation advice to help dancers take control of their injuries and recovery.
Have a plan for injury and prevention
Georgina’s dance history has also led her to create a Podiatry Ballet Biomechanical Assessment (PodBB) that pre-pointe ballet dancers can undergo to assess their readiness for pointe work. The assessment mixes podiatric tests with ballet-specific exercises and culminates with a recommendation to the student, their parents, and teachers.
Georgina works closely with the teachers to help protect the lower limbs of dancers new to pointe work and commonly assists in creating a plan for the student in conjunction with their teacher to get them pointe-ready!
Remember to bring all your shoes!
